Guest Photo: “A New Perspective” from John Mata

On Easter weekend, my friend John Mata (who introduced us to GIMP) and his family attended the annual Eggstravaganza festival at Santee Lakes, Santee, California.  He says:

“The weather was prime. We were with good friends. We had a great time. In this busy photo I converted the entire image to black and white, with the exception of my son Jayce and a little girl he had noticed off in the distance. In the midst of all that busyness there seemed to be a calm in my little boy. In that moment he had taken no notice of hundreds of people who had trampled the lawn all around him. But he had noticed a little girl. “

And I loved the photo – and what John did with it. File it under great children photography ideas.

Facebook friends, check out this photo I took over Easter weekend. My good friends Jim O'Donnell was nice enough to post it onto his website.

Nice work John, I guess Jayce is a chip off the old block

I don't agree that the eyes are drawn to both children. I first noticed Jayce in the foreground and then I followed in line of sight…

I agree Lynda. Thats what I noticed too. My eyes landed on Jayce and his look traced a line to the girl. Still, the bubbles are so perfect that they are my favorite part.

Very cool John!! GIMP is a great tool. I only wish I knew how to use it as well as you do.

Hey Tim! Nice to hear from you! Glad you like the image, and yes, GIMP is a great too. But, I have a hard time believing that I know GIMP better than a computer wiz like you! I was just asking about you at NPE a couple of weeks ago. I heard you’re doing great. Did you find this link on Linkedin?

Hey John, this is a great image. Your use of the special effects really adds to the image and gives it meaning that might otherwise be lost.

That really is great! Hard to tell when you guys are kidding. But this is seriously good.

Thanks Dylan! You're correct. Bringing everything to black and white except the two children is really what made this photo pop.

John Mata FYI…this is still getting decent hits. I did some extra SEO on it so I'm curious if it will boost again over the next week

Wow! Very nice! This brought a big smile to my face, although, I don’t think it was Jayce that noticed the girl. I think it was the little girl who noticed Jayce!

John, this is a great use of technology combined with your eye for still shots.
