My Shot(s) of the Day: A Very Cool Hot Balloon Ride Above Taos, New Mexico

Today delivered a fine surprise.  On a calm, clear morning just after the crack of dawn, I was unexpectedly dumped into a

large hot air balloon basket and flown 1700 feet over the Taos Plateau in northern New Mexico, down into the Rio Grande Gorge and back up and over the Mesa. It was a very cool hot balloon ride. Sadly, I only had my iphone and not my regular Nikon camera.  Still, I was able to get some great shots of the hot air balloon and it’s shadow, the landscape of the mesa from so high up and even some geese and hawks!

I’m a huge fan of hot air balloons and balloon fiesta as you can see here.  But this was the first time I’d been up since the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta nearly a decade ago.  There really is not better way to fly than a hot air balloon ride.
