London Laughs: Top 5 Comedy Offerings this Winter
Everyone loves to laugh, don’t they? Especially in dreary January! And while often it’s the dingy little comedy clubs that are frequented by lesser known comedians that are home to some of the fine emerging talents, it’s the big venues across the country that are where the big names go.
With plenty of laughs in store over the coming months, a night in London could be all you need to lift your spirits during these dark, dank days. Book a Travelodge room in the centre of the city and grab a ticket to one of the top shows that London has to offer; here are five of the best gigs that are coming up in the capital.
Frank Skinner
With an already sold-out show in Soho Theatre under his belt, this hilarious Brummie will be bringing his latest show, Man in a Suit, to the Leicester Square Theatre for an entire month, from January 21st until February 22nd. Anyone who has seen his shows before, or caught up on the TV at some point during his illustrious comedic career, will know how sharp and quick witted he is, and this tour is his first solo gig in six years – about time he came back to the stage!
Seann Walsh
This guy has made a bit of a name for himself over the past year or so, particularly since his inception onto Comedy Central with a string of his own shows. His show, The Lie-In King, can be found between February 3rd and February 8th, at the Soho Theatre, as part of the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards season at the theatre.
Alan Davies
Once upon a time, he was the star of Jonathan Creek. He then became a panel member on the intellectual show, QI. Throughout all of this though, he’s continued to provide some superb comedy stand-up shows, and Little Victories, on Valentine’s Day at the Cutty Sark, will be no different.
Sarah Millican
This astoundingly funny comedienne is live at the Hammersmith Apollo on February 28th and, as one of the top names on the circuit at the moment, you can be sure of a top notch night out in the capable hands of Sarah and her Home Bird tour.
Russell Brand
He’s certainly made a name for himself over the years, for very good reason. He may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but his live shows such as this one – The Messiah Complex – help to confirm why he’s such a household name on, and away from, the comedy circuit. You can find him at the O2 Academy Brixton between March 2nd and March 9th, as part of his smashing world tour.
With plenty of other superstar comedians hitting the capital too, between now and April, including Julian Clary, Miranda Hart, Sean Hughes, Russell Howard and Jeff Dunham, you’ll be spoilt for choice for a rib-tickling in London this winter.
Start planning a comedy trip to remember; whatever variety of comedy you’re looking for, 2014 is set to be a fabulous year on the circuit and you can be part of it with a trip to London over the next few months!
