The kids and I spent several days last weekend and into the week camping and hiking up in the Valle Vidal, one of the most amazing places in North America. We meant to go fishing but after arriving to our campsite in the Valle Vidal it turned out that while I had brought all the fishing grear I forgot the rods. Its a good thing I remembered the food, tents and sleeping bags.  And the rain gear.  We had a nice little shower one afternoon.

The whole summer has been like that. Just way too much going on and too little room in my mind to keep track of it all.  I’ve gone back to covering the wall above my desk with lists – Just to keep track of things. With the kids back in school as of Wednesday, I finally have time to catch up.  You may have noticed that I have not posted terribly much here on Around the World in Eighty Years this summer.  That will change in the coming weeks as I get back to a regular schedule of 2-3 posts a week over the coming months.

While there has been some pain-in-the-ass stuff going on the past few months there has also been alot of good stuff including alot more writing assignments for places like the Taos News (and here), Green Global Travel, Travel Mindset and others. Oneof my short stories will appear in Facing the Change.  I’ve also had some good photography sales to individuals and some publications such as New Mexico Journeys and Matador and am setting up my stock photography site. Getting better organized over the coming months in order to have a more steady lineup of both writing and photography work is my big goal over the coming month.

Oh.  And I’ve been diligently working away at my next book, a novel. It is Tentatively titled:

A Small Book About Museums, Greed, Need, France, Switzerland, the Burning of Smyrna, Mosaics, Old Men, Romans, a Bitchy Hotelier, Dijon, Roads, Villas, Archaeology, A Colombian Poet, Stolen Treasures, Cops, Custom Agents, Small Rocks, Double Crossings and How I Never Ended Up Getting My PHD.”

Should be good – but it will be at least a year from now until it is ready.  Maybe more like 18 months.  Lets see.  I need an agent in the meantime…….

Oh.  And I’ll have some upcoming travel announcement to make Monday.  Pretty cool stuff.
